Over the past two weeks, OGR economists Csaba Kober and Aron Iker led a technical assistance mission for the Bank of Tanzania as the second stage of a capacity-building initiative that began in May this year. The project was financed and organized by the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI).
This workshop aimed to enhance the technical capacity of BoT staff in operating the Quarterly Projections Model (QPM) and to improve forecasting practices that support the board in making effective monetary policy decisions. Participants were guided through various exchange rate modeling techniques, with a particular focus on modeling exchange rate and balance of payments dynamics. Additionally, the TA mission introduced a wide range of techniques for expert judgment used in historical filtration and forecasting, as well as related analytical practices.
We were, as always, pleased to contribute to MEFMI's capacity-building efforts in the region.
